Our Mission & Goals

Our Mission

To foster and promote the social, vocational and economic well-being of blind and visually impaired Nebraskans.

Our Goals

  • Educate and provide support to the uninformed consumer or the parents and family members of a blind or visually impaired individual, as to the various services and support that is available at the state and local level. This cooperative forum provides an excellent opportunity to get questions answered regarding various services available through the state agency for the blind and visually impaired.

  • Introduce you to us and answer any of your questions regarding the state or national organization; or any questions regarding any special programs or informational services available through us at the local, state or national level.

  • To inform and educate visually impaired persons within the state of Nebraska regarding state and national legislative issues, which may ultimately affect blind and visually impaired persons, and to educate the general population; in order to positively address the many negative stereotypes associated with blindness, in a constructive and positive manner.

  • Work to significantly improve Blind Rehabilitation Services as well as improve access to all other public services at the state and local level; by educating and working cooperatively with legislators, local governments, and with department heads; regarding unmet needs at the state and local level.

  • To promote and encourage a greater level of understanding and awareness; regarding visual impairments and to maximize independence based on individual ability or need.

  • To encourage and instill a greater level of self-determination among the blind by providing a wide variety of social and group activities, with the eventual goal of encouraging positive peer interaction, increasing/expanding social skills in a supportive environment, while providing leadership opportunities within the organization.
